How to Calm a Baby
"Why is my baby crying?"
As a caregiver, we've all asked that question before. We shouldn't feel shame for it either. Fortunately, there are ways we can try to meet their needs.
Using the process of elimination can be a great way to console your baby. One of the top reasons babies cry is that their needs go unmet. So, go through this list of needs.
- Does my baby need a diaper change?
- Does my baby need to eat?
- Does my baby need to burp?
- Is my baby uncomfortable?
If any of your answers to the above questions are yes, you may need to tend to your baby to meet that need. Change their diaper, feed them, or look for something causing discomfort.
However, if none of the above apply, your baby may feel overtired or overstimulated. That's where the Swaddelini can come in. It is infant sleep friendly, and can help your baby calm down and go to sleep.
That said, they may need something more. Your baby could be gassy, and you can help them with that. The Swaddelini sleep sack is infant massage friendly, so you can try this:
- Face massage. Trace their eyebrows, forehead to the bridge of their nose and back around their ears and across their cheek bones.
- Tummy massage. Place one hand on their belly and use one hand to glide the legs in a figure eight motion. go can also try bicycle legs or moving moth legs up and down slowly. All these moves can help alleviate gas.
- Feet reflexology. Pull one of their little feet out from the easy access flap at the bottom of the Swaddelini. Massaging their feet will help with any possible constipation.
Keep in mind your baby may be so overstimulated, meaning they do not want you to touch them at all! In this case try putting them in the Swaddelini and allowing the baby swaddle to do all the heavy lifting.
